Bourbon Barrel-Aged Old Navy
Our crown jewel. Organic navy beans steeped in blackstrap molasses, charred oak staves, and vanilla bean smoke. Poured on nitro for a tight, velvety bean-froth head that clings to the glass.
Welcome to The Bean Barrel, where we reject the humble plate and honor the heirloom legume the way nature intended: pulled piping hot from gravity casks and served in straight-sided imperial pint glasses. No spoons. No apologies.
“Just tilt your head back, let gravity do the work, and embrace the brown.”
For generations, baked beans have been relegated to the corner of a paper barbecue plate or scooped mournfully out of a tin can. We asked the question nobody else dared to ask: Why can't beans have the same glory, craftsmanship, and unhinged ceremony as a triple-dry-hopped imperial stout?
Founded by former brewmasters who realized the grain mash was good, but the bean mash was divine, The Bean Barrel was born. We treat every legume—from organic Maine navy beans to heirloom pinto and giant royal cannellini—with obsessive temperature rests, open-flame kettles, and charred barrel conditioning.
When you sit down at our tavern tables, you won't find a knife, fork, or spoon. You get an honest 16-ounce shaker pint filled to the brim with boiling, viscous beans. You grip the glass. You tip it back. You drink.
Great beans are not canned; they are engineered. In our 20-barrel copper brewhouse, our master legumiers manage complex thermal curves, mineral-adjusted brewing waters, and slow molasses caramelization.
Heirloom beans hydrate slowly in spring water balanced with Burton brewing salts, expanding until their starch matrices are primed for absorption.
In our direct-fired copper brew kettles, pure Barbados molasses, brown sugars, smoked lard, and spice extracts are vigorously kettle-boiled down to peak viscosity.
Select reserve batches rest for up to 14 months in freshly emptied bourbon and port wine casks, picking up deep tannin structures and toasted vanilla warmth.
Piped through insulated draft lines, each pour is pulled with a slow roll to ensure maximal bean density and glorious rim overflow.
Raw, honest, and undeniably messy. Are you ready to experience the finest legumes?
Don't let the experience stop when the tavern closes. Our heavy amber glass growlers are designed to lock in savory aromatics.
Under our municipal zoning variance and the Beanmaster's personal code of honor, spoons are considered a betrayal of the medium. We provide sturdy straight-sided pint glasses specifically weighted to facilitate tilt-drinking. If you are struggling, please ask our tap staff for a “slurping demonstration.”
Almost certainly yes. We view bean splatter as a badge of honor and evidence of a civilized evening. We sell branded canvas overalls and bean-resistant beard oil in our merch shop if you are faint of heart.
Similar to the brewing industry's International Bitterness Units (IBUs), our proprietary Bean Unit scale measures the combined concentration of dissolved molasses, surface tension coefficient, and general chewiness of each batch. 0 is soup; 100 will hold a pencil upright.
Yes! We have our mobile 8-tap Bean Trailer equipped with heated jockey boxes. Nothing brings families together quite like a champagne toast replaced by a 16-ounce glass of warm, sweet molasses beans.
Several taps (such as our wild-fermented Great Northerns and our Salted Butterscotch dessert cask) are vegetarian. Taps with pork belly lardons or smoked brisket are clearly marked on the board.
We are currently outfitting our brick brewhouse, barrels, and heated gravity draught lines.
